Privacy Policy
1. Scope and overview
This policy applies to the MacCleanly macOS app provided by Yongpeng Liang and its privacy policy website. MacCleanly helps analyze and organize storage on your Mac. The current version does not require an account. The app does not upload scanned file contents, file inventories, or cleanup history to developer-operated servers, and does not integrate advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party behavioral analytics SDKs.
2. Information processed on your Mac
To provide storage analysis, duplicate-file detection, similar-image comparison, associated application file checks, and developer-tool storage management, the app reads file names, paths, sizes, timestamps, file types, and application or tool metadata within the scope permitted by macOS and your authorization. Duplicate detection may read file contents and compute hashes. Similar-image comparison decodes images and computes features locally. This processing takes place on your device. “AI Storage” organizes files associated with local AI tools; it does not submit files to online AI models.
3. Permissions and your control
File access is limited by the macOS sandbox, system permissions, and the folders you authorize. The app may store security-scoped bookmarks to access authorized folders in later sessions. You can remove saved folder access in the app and manage relevant permissions in macOS System Settings. Some operations request Automation permission to ask Terminal to execute tool commands after your confirmation.
4. Local storage and deletion
Settings, folder authorization, operation history, and cumulative cleanup statistics are stored locally. History may include file names, original paths, Trash paths, operation times, and results. You can delete individual history records or clear history in the app. Clearing history does not delete or restore files or reset cumulative statistics. Removing folder authorization does not delete its contents. Most file cleanup uses the Trash. Some tool-based deletion operations executed through Terminal bypass the Trash, as explained in the confirmation interface.
5. Terminal, system services, and external tools
When you copy commands or choose to execute them in Terminal, the commands and necessary file paths, device identifiers, or package names are passed to the system clipboard, Terminal, or the relevant local tool. Depending on your system settings, clipboard contents may sync to other Apple devices through Universal Clipboard. External tools may access the network or retain logs according to their own behavior. Those tools and Apple system services are governed by their respective policies. MacCleanly does not use this process to upload scan results to the developer.
6. Support email
If you contact [email protected], we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use them only to respond to questions, troubleshoot issues, and provide necessary follow-up. Please do not send passwords or unnecessary sensitive information. Email service providers may process support messages. We retain this information only as needed to resolve your request and maintain necessary records, unless retention is legally required. You can use the same address to request access, correction, or deletion of information you have provided.
7. Privacy website and hosting
This website is designed as a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It contains no advertising, analytics scripts, or non-essential cookies added by us. When you visit, the hosting provider may process technical information such as your IP address, browser information, request time, and requested URL to deliver content, provide security, and operate its services. Website visits are separate from local file scanning within the app.
8. Sharing, security, and international processing
We do not sell your personal information or use support messages for advertising tracking. We disclose information we hold only when necessary to provide the services described above, with your consent, to comply with legal obligations, or to protect lawful rights. Email and hosting providers may process data outside your country or region. We take reasonable measures to protect information we hold, but no storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
MacCleanly is intended for a general audience and is not specifically designed for children. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information through support channels. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact our support address.
10. Changes and contact
We will update this page and its effective date when app features or data practices change. We will provide notice of material changes as required by applicable rules. For questions about this policy or requests to exercise applicable data protection rights, contact Yongpeng Liang at [email protected].
